MSIT to Be Prepared for a Second Wave of COVID-19 (Jun 23)


- MSIT held the "Science and ICT Disaster Response Meeting" with relevant major organizations to discuss how to improve proactive response measures to overcome the crisis
- Plans to use and support science and ICT to prepare for a second wave of COVID-19 announced


Minister Choi Kiyoung of the Ministry of Science and ICT(MSIT) held the “Science and ICT Disaster Response Meeting” on June 23 (Tue) to discuss measures to address concerns about COVID-19 being prolonged and a potential second wave, with major organizations in the science and ICT sectors.


To prepare for a second wave of COVID-19, six organizations that are carrying out treatment and vaccine development along with commercialization of the cutting-edge disease control technologies participated in the meeting: Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT), Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT), Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and Korea Institute of Toxicology (KIT).


Nine organizations responsible for providing a stable service to the public to prevent interruptions in economic and social activities even amid a COVID-19 second wave also participated: the three major telecom operators (SKT, KT, LG U+), Korea Post, Central Radio Management Service (CRMS), National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST), Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) and Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
